WGFC Assists Longwood in Pocopson Township

August 22, 2021

A two-alarm fire in a home in Pocopson Township drew an emergency response from multiple area fire companies from two counties earlier this week.

The Longwood Fire Company, and neighboring companies were dispatched for a house fire along Street Road (Route 926). The first in Engine from Longwood found heavy fire in the basement level, with smoke conditions throughout the home. That Engine had laid a supply line up the driveway -- that supply line was then split-laid to a nearby fire hydrant at the adjacent Pocopson Elementary School entrance, with water Tankers supplying an initial water source for firefighting efforts.

Aggressive work from the first-in Engine crew, supplemented by additional crews from Longwood, Kennett and West Chester were able to knock down the fire spread, but not before it had extended to the attic level. Chief 25 requested additional Engines and ultimately a second alarm to support extensive overhaul efforts at fire on a hot and humid day.

West Grove Tanker 22 responded on the initial request for a Tanker Task Force, and its crew then joined the fire fight when a water supply was established. Engine 22-2 also made the response as part of the request for additional Engine crews. Ambulance 22-2 responded to standby at Longwood's Station to cover the area, and it's crew made three emergency responses while on the standby.
