WGFC Assists Longwood on Barn Fire Overnight

July 5, 2021

Crews from many area fire companies were dispatched at 1:49am on Monday morning for a reported house fire in Kennett Township. A passerby saw a large structure burning well off the roadway down a long driveway and reported a house on fire on McFarlan Road. Longwood's Chief arrived on location and reported a barn fully involved.

West Grove Fire Company responded with Ladder 22, Rescue 22, and Utility 22. As the barn was fully involved, crews worked to protect the surroundings and took about three hours to fully extinguish the fire. Fortunately, the area is served by fire hydrants so there was a source of water to support this operation.

There was a large turnout of firefighters from Hockessin, Longwood, West Grove, Kennett, Avondale and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Companies.

There were no reported injuries.
