WGFC Marks the Passing of Robert "Bob" Massey

February 23, 2021

It is with regret that the West Grove Fire Company marks the passing of longtime member Robert "Bob" Massey at the age of 86.

Bob joined WGFC in 1952 and served as a member for 69 years. He also joined Avondale Fire Company in 1977. Bob, along with his wife Louise, were very active as a couple with the Fire Police, and area residents will recognize the pair from so many emergency scenes -- day and night, in the rain, or heavy snow.

Through the years, Bob and his wife Louise received many awards including the Fire Police of the Year from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Fire Police of the Year from Chester County, the top 10 Responder award, and many others. Bob was the Avon Grove Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 2005. Bob and Louise were a familiar sight to see at many fire and accident calls, regardless of the time of day. He will be missed by his many friends in the fire service and by his family.

We join with our brothers and sisters of the Avondale Fire Company who are also marking Bob's passing. Bob was an officer at Avondale, and many in the family have served or are serving as part of the leadership of the AFC -- with his grandson Steve Cole, Jr. serving as Deputy Chief, and immediate past-Fire Chief.
