WGFC Assists Oxford on Vacant House Fire
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Secretary Bill Wohl
February 22, 2020

Just past 6pm on Friday, February 21, West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Union Fire Company of Oxford on a reported house fire in East Nottingham Township. A passerby noticed a fire at a home located near the intersection of Oxford Road and Partridge Lane and contacted 911. Additional reports then indicated there was a large volume of fire.

Chief 21 went on location to report a dwelling on fire with fire showing from all three visible sides and requested a "working fire dispatch," which brings additional units. Included in the dispatches were fire companies from Oxford, West Grove, Cochranville, Rising Sun and Quarryville. EMS units from Medic 94 and Oxford were also dispatched.

Chief 21 reported that the structure was a vacant dwelling and indicated that operations would be defensive (meaning that the fire would be attacked from outside only). Arriving units were to lay in the driveway (for water supply) and an Engine was sent to a nearby pond to establish a draft for water supply.

WGFC sent two Engines (Engines 1 & 2), along with Tanker 22. WGFC units assisted with the water supply, and Tanker 22 shuttled five loads (at 3,500 gallons each) to the fire scene. WGFC firefighters worked alongside Oxford firefighters over three hours to bring the fire under control and wrap up operations.

Units: Engines 22-1 & 2, Tanker 22

Mutual Aid: Oxford, Quarryville, Rising Sun, and Cochranville Units. Medic 94.
