West Grove's Newest EMT!

By Firefighter Charles Foy.Sr
November 21, 2019

The West Grove Fire Company is proud to announce that Josh Mebane has graduated from EMT school. Josh attended one of the top-rated EMT schools in the area, located at the Uwchlan Ambulance Corp. (Exton PA), starting in August of this year.

Josh is a senior at Avon Grove High School and was able to successfully balance his high school classwork with the demands of the EMT course. The course is 120 hours of classwork using a course book that is more than 1,000 pages long. In addition to class time, homework, and the 45 minute commute each direction 3 days a week, Josh also had to ride along on numerous ambulance calls and acquire 5 or more patient encounters while being evaluated by trainers.

EMTs are the first line in first aid, with skills ranging from taking vital signs, airway management, respiration, and artificial ventilation; and medical and trauma patient assessments for medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, EMS operations and more.

EMTs are the backbone of the West Grove Fire Company's ambulance service, and the Fire Company is fortunate to have volunteers like Josh willing to give up their time to learn these skills, as well as parents like Bill and Marci who embrace and support their child's efforts to give back to our community. The EMT course cost is in excess of $1,000. This cost is gladly paid by the West Grove Fire Company as an investment in the future to continue providing premier EMS for our coverage area. Donations to help offset these costs are more than welcome!

Congratulations again Josh!
