"Stations 12 and 22, Route 1, south of Route 841, an auto accident reported serious." This is the dispatch that is heard on the pagers and radios, this is what brings the members to the stations with one goal in mind, saving lives. Rescue vehicles, ambulances, firefighters, EMT's, Medics, men and women; perform a seemingly chaotic dance, working to free the passengers, quickly and safely. All of this cannot happen without training. Members give up evenings and weekends to learn the techniques necessary to free drivers and passengers from twisted metal and plastic.
This past Monday evening, members gathered at Station 12 in New London for Vehicle Rescue Training. A chance to hone skills learned to introduce younger members the proper way to stabilize a vehicle, cut a windshield, "pop" a door, and protect themselves and the patients. A chance to get familiar with Rescue 12 and Rescue 22, and the tools they both carry. A chance for seasoned members to teach, and younger members to learn. All in preparation for that dispatch we all hope won't happen.
