Brush Fire Season

March 12, 2020

A rash of brush fires are keeping the fire company busy. Due to a relatively dry winter, an early arriving Spring, and along with windy days, brush fires have been dispatched several times in the past week.

Franklin Township

Crews were sent to Church Hill Road in Franklin Township for a brush fire behind a residence. Engine 22-1's crew reported a working brush fire and requested for additional assistance, including an all terrain vehicle. Brush 22, Tanker 22 and units from Oxford worked to contain about an acre of fire during this call.

London Britain Township

WGFC crews were called to a brush fire along Good Hope Road. An area about 200' feet long was burning along a driveway on Good Hope Road. Engine 22-1 arrived along with Brush 22 and extinguished the fire. Engine 22-3, Tanker 22, and Squad 22 were also on scene along with the ambulance crews.

Cecil County

West Grove units were also called to assist Cecil County on a multi-department response to a difficult-to-access fire in the Fair Hill Natural Resources area. The fire was deep in the woods east of Appleton Road and north of Route 273. Brush 22 was able to make access nearly one mile off the road. Also on scene at the Appleton Road parking area of the park were Engines 22-3 and 1, and Tanker 22. Fire departments involved included Elkton, Rising Sun, Newark, and West Grove.
