The West Grove Fire Company joined with dozens of adults and hundreds of children in welcoming Riley Jadick of Landenberg back to her school after more than a year-long fight with cancer. At a ceremony this morning, Riley returned to the Avon Grove Charter School in Kemblesville and crews from the WGFC were on hand with Ladder 22, Rescue 22, and one of our ambulances.

Riley loves fire trucks, and passes the London Britain station on her way to school each morning. She's talked about being a firefighter with one of her teachers -- who happens to be an active firefighter with the Cochranville Fire Company. So, when Riley's return to school was being planned, WGFC and Cochranville Fire Company answered the call, and were part of a special welcome back to school.

A large banner adorned the entrance to the school, and students made signs welcoming Riley back. And waiting for her in the gym were nearly a hundred of her classmates, many wearing Team Riley t-shirts for this special day. Riley was presented with an authentic WGFC helmet to accompany her own set of fire turnout gear from Cochranville. She also took a turn riding the front seat of 27's Engine, blowing the air horn and siren.

Riley's parents and family were on hand to celebrate, telling us that Riley still has health challenges, but her cancer is in remission. But she is back to school, and working her way toward being old enough to volunteer at the WGFC in a few short years!

The West Grove Fire Company was honored to be a part of this special celebration. Thanks to the AG Charter School team for putting everything together.
