The sounds of sirens filled the air in the southern part of the Avon Grove area on Christmas afternoon, as the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to a residential rescue. WGFC units were advised that a subject had fallen through the ceiling above the garage at a home on Woodhaven Drive, a sub-division off of Elbow Lane at the southern edge of London Britain Township.

WGFC Ambulance 22-1 arrived on the scene just ahead of Engine 22-3. Responders found a man who had fallen through the drywall ceiling between the rafters, and had a possible arm injury. After falling, the subject was wedged between two rafters, with one leg dangling down into the garage above a garage door track. A section of ceiling and a fluorescent light fixture were dangling from the damaged ceiling.

Also arriving were Chief 22 (who assumed command), along with Rescue 22, Ladder 22, Brush 22, and Ambulance 22-2. EMTs and Firefighters made access to the attic area, and worked to examine and package the patient for removal. After considering the use of a stokes basket to lower the subject, it was determined the patient could be assisted down the ladder. The firefighters assisted the subject down the ladder to a waiting ambulance stretcher for transport to the hospital.

WGFC units were on scene approximately 45 minutes.
