Fire Box 2201

Five minutes after high noon, the Company along with Engines 23-1 & 23-2 (Avondale), Engine 21-1 & Ladder 21 (Oxford), Rescue 27 (Cochranville) and Engine 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) were alerted for a house on fire in the 100 block of Jackson Avenue in West Grove Borough. Engine 22-1 with five and Ladder 22 with three hit the street, with the Ladder going up the wrong way for the best position. Ladder 22 arrived first to report a three-story wood-framed single family with nothing evident on the Alpha, Bravo, and Delta sides. The Ladder took the first due 'truck' assignment as set forth by the Southern End area of Chester County Fire Companies for all box alarms; while Engine 22-1 arrived and split laid in from West Summit & Jackson and the crew stretched a 200' attack line to the front of the door following the first due engine company orders. Chief 21 (Oxford) arrived and established "Jackson Avenue Command", while Sergeant 22 had the operations sector of the ICS.

Crews made their way to the rear of the dwelling and Ladder 22 crew found debris on top of a clothes dryer on fire. The Ladder and Engine 1 crew removed the burning debris to the front sidewalk and opened up the wall behind the dryer to check for extension. By this time, Engine 22-2 arrived as second due and secured the water supply for Engine 1 to the nearest hydrant, and Engine 23-1 arrived as third due and was the I-RIT (Initial Rapid Invention Team). Once the interior crews checked for extension and found negative results, Command scaled the incident back to units on location and requested the Fire Marshal to respond. All crews picked up all hoses, ground ladders (72') and other equipment to make the units ready for the next run and cleared as per Command. Ladder 22 stayed on scene until FM 100 (Chester County) arrived to investigate. Ladder 22 cleared the scene once the investigation was completed.
