WGFC Conducts Basic Skill Competency Drill

West Grove firefighters participated in a basic skills timed drill which incorporated the following elements;

1.) Deploying a 200' 1.75" hand line advancing it 50' once charged and striking two targets with a straight stream.
2.) Fast walk 50' and start a Cutters Edge ventilation saw.
3.) Throw a 12' Roof Ladder and position to climb.
4.) Forcible entry simulation - Moving an auto tire on the ground 10' by striking with a sledge hammer.
5.) Dragging a 185 lb. rescue dummy 20'.

The drill was run with full personal protective equipment and SCBA in place. Data was collected on air consumption along with start and end times. This data is compared year over year to help members identify performance improvement opportunities. Eleven member participated in the drill logging times from 2 minutes 30 seconds to 4 minutes 20 seconds. The Training Committee and Line Officers would like to thank our members for their commitment to train and serve our community.
