The morning of January 11th turned into a busy morning for the West Grove Fire Company. Roads were ice covered through the early morning hours, which resulted in several automobile accidents during the morning rush. The first one came in at 7:11 at the intersection of Good Hope and Parsons Road. Ambulance 22-1 was the first onscene and found a large box truck struck a small car. Although neither drivers were injured, the impact was severe enough on the car that the operator could not open the door. The rescue arrived onscene and went to work on removing the front driver’s door. They started off cribbing the vehicle, than used the tools mounted on the front bumper of the Rescue 22, the hydraulic spreaders and “O” cutter. Once the door was removed, the operator got out on his own; refusing any medical treatment. The rescue crew cleaned up all equipment, than assisted with traffic control, until turning the incident over to the PA state trooper that was on location, as they responded to the next emergency.

The second emergency came in at 7:20am to assist Station 21 (Union Fire Co) with traffic control at the intersection of Chesterville and Louisville Roads. Fire Police Lt. Phil Howard handled that assignment, by closing the intersection, as the Oxford crews were working further down the road with an auto accident.

While on scene on Good Hope Road, the department was alerted at 7:52am for another accident, this time in the 100 block of Hess Mill Road. The crew cleared up from Good Hope and responded that incident. Once on scene, the crew found a school bus that lost traction and became stranded on the curve of the road. There was also a car that slid in the same location and hit a telephone pole. That driver was transported to Jennersville Hospital by Ambulance 22-2 with minor injuries. The rescue checked for hazards and conducted traffic control. Fortunately, a road crew from Franklin Township was on scene quickly to assist. They closed the road at Wingate Drive and at Beechwood Drive, until a salt truck was available to salt around the stranded vehicles. The incident was turned over to the PA State Police and the Township.
