By Training Division
August 8, 2016
With recent Active Shooter / Mass Casualty Incidents dominating the national and world news headlines, the reality of this type of incident occurring is a real threat. No community is immune which is why emergency preparedness is imperative to a successful response. This past Monday evening WGFC conducted a drill consisting of two scenarios which involved establishing Incident Command, search & rescue, triage prioritization, patient transport all with limited first due resources. The first due Ambulance and Fire/Rescue crews consisting of 9 members arrived on scene to find a neutralized shooter with 7 victims to triage, treat, and transport. The scenarios were further complicated with outside interference from bystanders.
A post drill critique was conducted to identify what processes/tactics went well and where opportunities exist for improvement. A total of 28 WGFC members attended the training to sharpen their skills and be better prepared to handle a mass casualty incident. The Line Officers and Training Committee would to thank all the Volunteer and Career members for their commitment to training and serving the community.
