By Deputy Chief Justin Gattorno
October 22, 2015

During the early morning hours on October 22, 2015 the West Grove Fire Company along with and Ambulance from Avondale fire company and Medic 94 were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Creek rd in London Britain twp. for an accident reported to be serious. Assistant and Deputy 22 went responding. Initial reports from the Chester County Fireboard were that a vehicle drove into a house, someone in the house was possibly hurt, the vehicle struck a propane tank line and that there was an odor of gas. A Medic 94 unit arrived first and reported a vehicle into a house with the occupant still in the car with an actively leaking propane tank. Deputy 22 arrived moments later and established North Creek Road command.

Upon assessing the scene the propane leak was able to be isolated by securing the valve at the underground tank and it was also confirmed that all occupants were out of the house. Ambulance 23 and Ambulance 12 arrived followed by Engine 32. The ambulances went to work stabilizing and packaging the patient. Engine 32's crew was instructed to pull a handline to protect the scene while the crews were working. Rescue 12 and Engine 12 arrived and were assigned to check for gas levels in the house due to the leaking propane. The high levels of propane in the house were ventilated using positive pressure fans and existing window openings. The patient was transported to Christiana for treatment of injuries. London Britain twp road crews were requested to shut down N. Creek road due to the damage sustained to the home. Crews cleared the scene within 90 minutes.
