Station 23 (Avondale Fire Company) was dispatched to the 900 block of Penn Green Road at 19:35 on Friday, April 19th for a building fire. Initial reports stated heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the commercial structure, first arriving fire officers confirmed the report and upgraded to a working building assignment. The operating engine companies quickly put 1.75" lines in service and monitored exposures to the loading dock and "Bravo" side of the structure. Crews were advised of ammonia tanks inside the involved structure that were at risk. West Grove Engine 22 and Ladder 22 were in service conducting roof operations, ventilation and exterior fire attack. Engine 12's crew operated as manpower and accountability. Throughout the duration of the incident operating crews faced heavy wind, rain and lightning which contributed to several secondary calls in Southern Chester County, these calls were handled by local and cover assignment companies. At the conclusion of the Penn Green fire Stations 12, 22 and 32 were alerted to a secondary structure with confirmed reports of fire in the attic, located at Hoods Lane and Old Baltimore Pike.
