| On Wednesday April 17th over 40 members of West Grove Fire Company, Union Fire Company, and Cochranville Fire Company took part in training with our new medical director, Dr. Derek Isenberg. Dr. Isenberg conducted training on C-PAP, epinephrine pens, and quick clot, which our services will all be implementing to provide better care to our residents.
C-PAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is pressurized oxygen used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, severe asthma attacks, and exacerbations of COPD / emphysema. It is very effective, reduces the need for intubations, and typically improves patient conditions rapidly.
Epinephrine pens (epi-pens) are the same devices many people with allergies carry with them in the event of an allergic reaction. Timely administration is paramount in the treatment of anaphylaxis and the addition of these to our units allows us to provide our residents with that timely care.
Quick clot is a chemically enhanced bandage that inhibits the clotting process within the body. Applied directly to the source of the bleeding the quick clot bandage can be used in conjunction with the tourniquet to control massive bleeding. Quick clot has been very successful in military operations and is making its way into the civilian world, again allowing us to provide the best care available to our residents.
Thank you Dr. Isenberg for a great training experience, thank you to Union Fire Company for a great dinner, and a big thank you to everyone who attended. These 3 organizations are looking forward to quarterly training sessions with Dr. Isenberg. |
