In celebration of EMS week, Chester County held its annual EMS Awards banquet at the Red Clay room in Kennett Square, PA. Several providers from West Grove Fire Company were recognized for various reasons from saving people's lives to delivering babies to leadership in EMS.
EMT Ted Fosselman, EMT John Crowley and Firefighter Kevin Hannan were received awards for assisting in saving the life of a fifty five year old male who was in sudden cardiac arrest. Along with the assistance of Paramedics from Medic 94 (Kim Harvey and Don Keith) and EMT's from Avondale Fire Company the patient had a spontaneous return of circulation and was successfully resuscitated. The patient was released from the hospital a few days later with no neurological deficits.
EMT Matt Gialloreto, EMT Bill Wohl Sr, Safety Officer/EMT Kevin Sweeny, Firefighter/EMT Ian Torello, and EMS Captain Ron Weir were recognized for a call in which they responded to a local athletic facility for a 14 year old female that was in cardiac arrest. Bystanders were on scene attempting to resuscitate the patient when the above West Grove Fire Company crews arrived and took over. The Crews along with Paramedic Gary Hartung from Medic 94 were able to successfully resuscitate the patient and she was later released from the hospital and was able to come to the awards ceremony and thank the people who helped save her life in person.
Barclay Hargreaves, who worked with West Grove Fire Company till the beginning of this year, was recognized for his leadership in Emergency Medical Services and the immense contributions that he made to the EMS system as a whole in Chester County. Barclay now works with the Chester County Department of Emergency Services.
The event was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the evening. The West Grove Fire Company congratulates all the awards recipients for their hard work and dedication to EMS and the community.
